SamuriHLMar 22, Completely out of the realm of my knowledge. The vendor commands that Mike uses allows him statistics classroom upload a small piece of code to the drive's memory.

That's the Libre Drive code which disables bus encryption and bypasses mkb revocation. These firmware updates that disabled uhd friendly ability removed those vendor commands that allow that kind of access and removed ability to read uhd disc.

The mk patched firmware restores that functionality allowing Libre drive to work on those firmware versions. That's as far as my understanding goes. I'm still learning myself as much as I can when info is released.

I'm by no means any kind of expert. It works just fine. I've been doing it with my ns60 to create protected isos. Use makemkvcon info to put the drive in Libre mode then use ddrescue or imgburn or whatever to read the disc.

To clear up some Blu-ray related confusion, the following section explains the difference between firmware, software, and drivers, and how they relate to data storage drives.

Firmware is housed on the Optical Disc Drive itself. Drivers are housed on the computer, and provide instructions for how the computer communicates with the drive. These instructions may include how to interpret the data that is sent by the drive, what type of data it is, or how to send data to the drive to be burned.

Some legacy devices may use specific drivers, but this is rare. All newer drives are Plug-and-Play compliant, meaning the drivers are already built-in to the computer. Note: Our newer drives have been tested with Windows 10 and remain Plug-and-Play compliant.

Media playback software, such as the Cyberlink Media Suite that comes with our drives, is used to process the data that is sent to the computer from the disc drive.

This type of software converts the data into a format that people can understand, such as a video. Due to the codecs used to encode Blu-ray Discs, it is unlikely that these discs will play without installing the correct media software.

McFly and TheEmpathicEar like this. McFly likes this. I have been trying to get more detailed information about the above discs at Amazon and so far - Nada. TheEmpathicEarFeb 27, Just wanted to bump and say thanks to the OP for doing this. The downgrade worked perfectly. Ripped a couple of UHD discs without any issues. This is way better than the other method, which even I thought was really sketchy and I'm willing to do a lot of legwork to figure things out!

www.makemkv.com

It's not sketchy, it's just a pain in the ass. And more inherently dangerous because it erases the firmware and then flashes the ENTIRE thing by bypassing the drive's update process. This process, however, uses the drive's update process with all the checks involved making it MUCH safer. The downgrade enable part of this equation was the key. SamuriHLMar 6, MartyMcNutsMar 6, I am using ImgBurn with the same settings as for dual-layer Blu-Rays for the writes.

In both discs, it seems there is a "hiccup" about 1 hour or so into the films [about half way through] - video stutter of freezing. It is possible the LG is having trouble with a layer break? Or, something else? Just throwing this out there Last edited: Mar 17, TheEmpathicEarMar 17, John BankMar 20, SamuriHLMar 20, SamuriHL likes this. The link to the patcher should be in this thread. According to the FSF, this is a major milestone towards their goal of providing users a truly free and open source computer, from the browser all the way down to the BIOS. Whatever it takes to get that Intel Management Engine off your penguin-powered box.

Am I missing something here? Do newer mobos need some special magic or something to flash them with new firmware? I just tried to write about this myself, but it seems my comment disappeared into a black hole or something? Its deeply religious. It needs a separate RS interface! Are there still computers that have an RS port? And who needs a pre-built one? Businesses who are committed to Libre toolchains. So the price of the pre-built device has nothing to do with the price of the parts, any more than the price of a car is based on the price of steel.

Instead, it is priced to be competitive with extant commercial programmers. Take a look at the site; little to no technical information, no discussion even of intended compatibility; lots of discussion about Libre. It appears instead to be targeted at companies who want to offer libre motherboards that act as drop-in replacements for existing PC systems.

They can order the chips from their supplier already pre-burned. Heck, we can get this even with microchip pics. At work we have a laptop with a looked bios. No one can remember the password. I wonder if flashing the bios with LibreBoot is an option? Got nothing to loose. Just reset the CMOS by removing the battery for a while or shorting the reset jumper if there is one.

Still, there are ways around.Skip to content. Quick links. DVDFab tool method became more and more popular. Live flash update in raw mode became a commodity. Guides on our forum written by fellow members are also based on this method. This method is highly dangerous please see viewtopic. To stop the painful drive abuse I have to divulge some information. Normally I avoid doing so, but the current insanity has to be stopped.

Here is my "guide" how to downgrade any MTK firmware using only official flashing app. No dosflash, no direct flash write, no meddling with IDE controller settings. What we would need: A patched official MTK flasher. An unpacked official update image bin file. The archive at link above contains some images already. This is important step - the official update BIN is needed, not a dump of any sort or "cleaned" dump.

These are easy to come by. For example ASUS drive with 3. A custom step is required to make the old firmware flash-able on a latest-firmware drive. Any old firmware can be patched this way. Here are instructions for the super-duper-secret-mega hack that would allow flashing the old firmware into drives with latest firmware: Open the firmware BIN file with a hex editor.

Navigate to the offset 0x1ec The byte at this location should be FF. In fact on all old firmwares the bytes just before this byte have some distinct values, and all bytes after this byte are FFs.

Change just this single byte at location 0x1ec from 0xFF to 0xDE "downgrade enable". You are an elite hacker now. With this byte changed, the firmware will be accepted by drives with latest firmware, allowing downgrade using official flasher.
