What exactly is a TV box? What does it do? Most importantly, why should you buy one? A TV box is a small electronic device that connects to your television, transforming it into a Smart TV. While most TVs these days already use smart technology, a TV box can expand the capabilities of your television, turning it into a less powerful version of your computer, or a larger version of your smartphone. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to connect to premium cable channels at no extra cost, especially if your TV box uses KODI software.
While all of these TV boxes run via similar technology, they have different operating systems and thus, different user interfaces.
When it comes to buying an Android TV box, you need to pay close attention to its technical specifications. By familiarizing yourself with some of the more important features in an Android TV box, you can make a smarter purchase for your home and family. Like all advanced electronics, TV boxes run using a dedicated operating system. The OS is much more than aesthetic appeal and a lineup of apps, however.
The operating system of your TV box also affects any smart hubs you may have in your home. Since not all smart devices are compatible with one another, make sure your TV box works with the rest of your smart technology.
A TV box will be functional no matter which operating system you choose, but make sure you buy one with an up-to-date OS for improved performance. In other words, audio passthrough is a feature designed to make your movies, TV shows and even music sound better. While not all TV boxes are equipped with audio passthrough, the feature is frequently found in KODI due to its versatility, and some TV boxes even have 5.
Dynamic Refresh Rate is another technical term you may or may not be familiar with. Dynamic refresh rate switching allows the TV Box to automatically compensate for the difference in frame rate, syncing the lower frame rate of your movie with the higher frame rate of your TV for better visual appeal. If just one of them does not have the feature, you will have to manually adjust the frame rate. While these ports have little in common with one another, they are all very important to your TV box.
Which Enigma 2 Box? Thread starter tredman Start date Aug 24, I'm looking to get a decent reliable dual DVB-S2 box to use for freesat. I'm looking at enigma 2 as I could also use it as a tvserver for my various kodi boxes too. Could anyone recommend a decent reliable fairly well featured box?
Solo2 is worth a look if you only need 2 tuners. Bigfingers Distinguished Member. The technomate e2 boxes are not worth considering imo. It's a personal choice but I think the front screen of the Duo would put me off Thanks all. Sorry can't comment on the USB tuner, I'm sure if you google it you'll soon find any issues.
Solo2 has an internal caddy for HD, if you don't want to use it may be worth considering the slightly smaller and cheaper SE? The SE looks a good option - is the lack of internal caddy the only difference? The specs on WoS look similar, but not quite the same. I have recently acquired an Xtrend ET after a lot of research.
Avalon One Active Member. Thanks for that. Should be delivered tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting back into enigma. I spotted the thread but didn't connect the user names, it's a decent box with a lot of flexibility.
I personally run VIX with Rossi's Blue Sky theme, more functional skins exist but the familiar look and feel made it a easier transition for the family. If you need any pointers with cam's etc. Cheers for that - the skin sounds interesting, is it available via VIX plugins?
Which Enigma 2 Box?
Hoping the box will arive today and lookign forward to messing around - might be a bit busy as I'm expecting a Wetek Play 2 today too. Yep, skin is called BlueHD, when you look at the recordings the lines will have an overlap, press menu and knock it down from the default to 9 lines per page and it's great.
The box is capable of doing all sorts of things - the Wetek is capable of all sorts of other things and having both will give you the best of both worlds.Log in Register. Search titles only.
Thread starter SHawking Start date May 31, SHawking Registered. If money is no option i. My needs for the box will primarily be IPTV first and foremost, and perhaps a satellite connection as a backup; the ability for 4K would also be nice for future-proofing.
Thanks for your time, help and recommendations :. Sat is pretty much finished, no movies, sport, no HD anymore. So don't bother with it. Cable is ok for now so if you have Virgin BB then that's probably your best option. Works as good as a MAG box but you can run Terrarium and other Apps which will give you all the films and boxsets you need, you can add a dodgy Netflix account and various other things.
There is no real future proofing as it's a game of cat and mouse and we are the mice So if you are dipping your toe, don't spend too much and learn as you go. As Bees said, if your starting out don't spend silly money on something you don't need, Most android boxes will cover what your looking for, minimum spec would be 2gig ram and 16gig storage, fleebay has hundreds to choose from, try to get a UK version as the Chinese imports can be flaky. Like has been said, Vu boxes are really good.
The spec on my Uno is phenomenal for the price. Thanks for your replies so far guys. I'd prefer to get an Enigma 2 box as opposed to an Android or MAG boxas I want to keep the Sky interface for the rest of the family to use. Also, you guys are definitely right about the state of satellite, so I'll only be possibly using it for Freeview channels I think.
Sadly I'm also not in a VM serviced area :. Why not have a look at a motorised sat setup plenty of other sats than The top end vu boxes are the best on the market and always have been,Get what you pay for in the end. It runs IPTV perfectly well, is 4k and if you wanted kodi can be installed. Sam14 Registered.Deals Amazon deals Bargain threads Classified adverts. Log in Register. Search titles only. Or it is with vix, that's all I've used. Oh wow. That's great to know. I'm looking forward to getting my box. JonMace Well-known Member. I installed the box, but never used it.
Silly of me really. I spend less and less time on the telly these days so the hardware was wasted on me. I ended up selling the hardware on shpock and I got out exactly what I paid for it.
